Site work for a road / highway in Ta Ta Creek, British Columbia. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway.
A section of the Trail follows a steep slope, with rock outcroppings. Historically, CP Rail had scaled the rock face, and placed anchors in some areas. The Cities completed an initial technical analysis (McElhanney, 2019) along this section of Trail, to determine if any further remediation would be required. This analysis identified two main areas that in the long-term could develop into high risk exposure. The Cities have completed the initial recommendations outlined in the technical memo, by removing the vegetation which could affect rock block movement. A second technical memo was completed in 2024 (Tetra Tech) to expand on the findings of the initial analysis. The Cities are looking to move forward with rock scaling to mitigate the long term risk of rock displacement. The project seeks to maximize the remediation outcomes within the set budget of $153,000. At a minimum, the project would see the removal of the higher risk blocks and fragments where possible, in locations “B” and “D” (as per technical memos).
