The intent of these specifications is to secure the services of a qualified contractor to remove, repair, and install Plant 4 Train 1 Clarifier Components at the Southeast Water Reclamation Plant which is located at 3603 Guava Ave., Lubbock, Texas. 1.2 The contractor shall provide all necessary crane services, sandblasting, welding, and coating services of the tank structure, rakes, and drive supports. 1.3 The contractor shall furnish all labor, tools, materials, and equipment to completely install the drive assembly provided by the City of Lubbock (NOS parts). Once complete, the contractor shall coordinate with the City's representative to return the clarifier and drive assembly to operational service. 1.4 Electrical disconnects and reconnections will be performed in-house by the City's licensed electricians. Additionally, initial cleaning of the tank and structural components will be performed by Plant staff. 1.5 Fiberglass trough covers will be removed and replaced by Plant staff prior to the start of construction to minimize the duration of shut down. 1.6 All fluids for gear assembly will be provided by Plant staff using specified oils and grease in the O&M manual. Questions Due Date Online Portal Deadline to submit Questions Jul 18th 2025, 2:00 PM CDT The clarifier utilizes a Walker drive system that consists of a large "Bull" gear that rotates much like a planetary gear set up on a shaft driven worm gear. The drive unit has a redundant overtorque feature using a shear pin as well as an over torque switch 2.2 Contractor will be responsible to coordinate all crane needs to remove the catwalk, old drive gear assemblies, installation of new gear and drive assembly, and reinstallation of catwalk. 2.3 Contractor shall purchase, deliver, and install necessary angle iron and metal materials of similar gauge as the material being replaced. 2.4 Contractor shall coordinate all sandblasting of existing metal to remove coating and show any hidden damage that would be included in the repair. 2.5 Contractor shall purchase, deliver, and spray a high solids 2-part epoxy over all sandblasted surfaces. To include center tower, catwalk, arms, and trough after repair. 2.6. Contractor will be responsible for replacement of worn weir plates with equivalent replacements. 2.7. Contractor shall bear the responsibility to confirm all field measurements regarding gauge of the metal being replaced. 2.8. The contractor shall coordinate clarifier process shutdowns with the City's representatives and Control Room operations staff 24 hours in advance of work. 3. Sandblasting, Coating, and Point Repair 3.1 All metal must be sandblasted and inspected. 3.2 Metal that shows significant degradation should be cut out and replaced with the same gauge and profile as the existing structure. 3.3 All metal parts, and fiberglass trough should be coated with a high solids 2-part epoxy for durability. 4. Drive Gear Replacement 4.1 The catwalk must be removed to replace the gear. 4.2 The gear drive unit is provided by the City of Lubbock as a new part that was purchased from Walker Process Equipment. 4.3 All bolts and assembly hardware will be provided by the City as part of the kit from Walker. 5. Reassembly 5.1 After reassembly, Plant personnel will fit the trough covers, and re-establish the electrical connections. 5.2 The clarifier and drive unit will be inspected and test operated prior to filling the structure with water. The project is not considered complete until all components are proven to be fully functional.
