Renovation of an educational facility in Kennesaw, Georgia. Working plans call for the renovation of a 78,190-square-foot educational facility.
“The owner has determined a prequalified list of construction managers. A Request for Proposals for CMaR has not yet been established.” Kennesaw State University recently acquired the 78,190 SF facility at 500 Chastain Center as part of a strategic initiative to support institutional growth and improve operational efficiency. In May 2024 the BOR approved Wellstar Champions Complex naming for the facility, and location of the proposed renovation. The renovation aligns with KSUs 2024 Strategic Plan and Campus Master Plan goals, including the repurposing of Chastain Pointe for the College of the Arts, prioritizing academic and research growth within the campus core, optimizing administrative space, and supporting the KSU Athletic Association. By modernizing infrastructure and consolidating programs, the project reduces reliance on leased facilities, enables the planned demolition of outdated structuressuch as 3213 Campus Loop Road, located in a floodplain and promotes more efficient use of university owned space. The renovation project will modernize building systems infrastructure and bring the facility up to the current code. This would involve adding a sprinkler system, an updated fire alarm system, and fiber network connectivity to meet university standards. Additionally, some controls modifications will be implemented to maintain the operation of existing systems as a separate enabling project, all new or modified building systems identified in the renovation scope will incorporate updated controls to ensure long-term performance and integration. Strategic interior improvements will include reconfigured office layouts, updated finishes, flexible conference rooms, touchdown workstations, and a break room. Minimal targeted exterior upgrades will address façade painting, site access, and signage. These improvements will serve various KSUs Football Operations, as well as various departments within Administration & Finance Division including Planning, Design & Construction, Plant Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, and Event & Venue Management departments. The project aims to allow the Football Operations to use the office spaces and multipurpose meeting rooms for team activities. The building would also include dedicated areas for video review, taping, locker rooms, and a satellite sports medicine services.
