The Sixth Avenue Bridge (Structure No. 1600-012), designated County Route 652, crosses over the Passaic River connecting the City of Paterson, Borough of Prospect Park and Borough of Hawthorne. The bridge was originally constructed in 1900, and in 1987 the superstructure was replaced with a temporary steel truss structure. Due to structure deficiencies and substandard features, the bridge is in need of replacement. The project involves replacing the existing bridge with a new 3-span steel multi-girder continuous bridge with reinforced concrete deck slab. County : Passaic Municipality: Paterson City, Prospect Park Boro, Hawthorne Boro Mileposts: 0.45 As of July 10, 2026, the project is in Conceptual status. Anticipated letting Year is 2029. NJDOT - Sixth Avenue (CR 652), Bridge over Passaic River *Project information has been obtained through a public state transportation improvement plan (STIP). A STIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the STIP often evolves based on funding availability.
