The Project includes the following Work: The installation of a continuous cutoff wall along the crest of Palmetto Bend Dam. The primary objectives are to reduce downstream piezometric levels and to increase the factor of safety against uplift and reduce the potential for piping in the East Drain Ditch. Palmetto Bend Dam is located in Jackson County, Texas, approximately 7 miles southeast of Edna, Texas. The base cutoff wall will extend approximately 1,550 linear feet (LF), aligned along the dam’s centerline from STA 188+50 to STA 204+00. A 100 LF test wall section will be constructed between STA 204+00 and STA 205+00. Within one week of completing 1,000 LF of the base wall, the engineer will review piezometric data to determine whether to extend the wall an additional 300 LF (max) to the east, and determine the extent of bedding and riprap installation in the East Drain Ditch, per the bid alternates. Following cutoff wall installation, a cutoff wall consolidation period of approximately 30 days will occur. Upon completion of trenching, a boil closure will be constructed to replace the existing sand boil and ring dike in the East Drain Ditch. If deemed necessary, bedding and riprap installation will proceed at the determination of the engineer.
