Renovation of a mixed-use development in San Diego, California. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.

The San Diego VAHCS has a requirement to convert non-single patient rooms into single patient rooms. This project renovates 6,485 SF and constructs 3,125 SF of new space on the Fifth floor East Pods B and C, in Building 1. This project will address the priority of single patient privacy rooms for inpatient medical/surgical beds, safety gaps, privacy, and future shortcomings in space for the fast-growing veteran population in San Diego. The new construction will require the exterior walls to be pushed out to be flush with the exterior of the balcony. The project constructs inpatient med/surg beds adjacent to the complete and approved ongoing projects for the rest of the inpatient med/surg beds located in Building 1, Fifth floor, A, B, C, & D pods. Previously two projects have renovated half (Fifth floor A & D pods) of the med/surg allocated space into single patient privacy rooms. This project will complete the other half approximately of the med/surg with a goal totaling 32 single patient privacy rooms. The impatient med/surg area shall include: private single patient rooms, attached private toilet and shower to each room that is ADA compliant, dedicated nurse station, efficient patient flow, and updated finishes that will transform the original 1972 inpatient ward look and feel to a more relaxed, calming, and safe inpatient environment. Additionally, the single inpatient rooms will incorporate sound-proofing construction materials for patient privacy, the required number of isolation rooms to TB patients, improve patient flow, and natural light (patient room will be located on the exterior of the building allow inpatients witness natural light and outstanding views of San Diego). This project is planned for advertising in August/September 2025. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541330 applies to this procurement. In accordance with FAR 52.236-22 Design within Funding Limits, the construction cost limit for the construction contract is approximately $17,585,000. The Method of Contractor Selection has not been determined at this Time.
