Renovation of a laboratory facility in Durham, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a laboratory facility.
The USDA Research Triangle Park Forest Sciences Laboratory requires Flume Removal Install located at 3041 East Cornwallis Road Durham, NC. Due DATE: Thursday, 7th August 2025 at 11:59PM Eastern Time. It is the quoters responsibility to confirm receipt of the quote. Quoters shall submit their quote to the Purchasing Agent Harkley, Heather at heather.harkley@usda.gov and a courtesy copy to Contracting Officer, Rivera gonzalez, Nestor at nestor.riveragonzalez@usda.gov. This request for service will be contracted to remove the two existing H flumes and wing walls and install the two new prefabricated H flumes and wing walls. The USDA Forest Service Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (EFETAC) has a long-term paired watershed program to monitor the effects of forest management on water quantity and quality in Granville County, North Carolina (36.179185, -78.779863). Over the last two years, temporary repairs have been made on the two existing H flumes (figure 1) at the Umstead Research Farm site in Granville County, but they now require full replacement to maintain the accuracy of our flow data. This request for service will be contracted to remove the two existing H flumes and wing walls and install the two new prefabricated H flumes and wing walls. Removal and installation of the prefabricated H flumes shall be completed within one month after the contract is awarded. Removing and installing two flumes with wing walls in two watersheds in Granville County, NC. (Note: The government will provide the two prefabricated flumes, treated plywood, and marine-grade epoxy. The contractor will remove the existing flumes and wing walls and install the provided flumes. The contractor will apply the marine-grade epoxy to the wing walls. Two prefabricated H -flumes will be removed and installed in natural channels, locations to be specified by EFETAC personnel. Specific points on the installation: 1. The Forest Service will provide the replacement flume, wing walls, and marine-grade epoxy. 2. The contractor will be responsible for procuring all other necessary supplies and equipment, including but not limited to - cement (for the approach and to prevent underflow), all-thread rods (if existing rods cannot be reused), screws (to attach wing walls to the flume), sealant (to seal spaces between the flume and wing walls), and any additional materials or tools required for a secure and stable installation. 3. Supports (all-thread rods) for the flume will be installed in concrete (if the existing rods cannot be reused) and the flume and wing-walls will be sufficiently reinforced with concrete-filled sand-bags or rocks. 4. Wing walls will be anchored to the upstream section of the flumes that will: a. Extend away from the flume at a 45-degree angle. b. Extend into the bank not less than 3'. c. Be constructed of pressure treated _" plywood, completely coated with a marine-grade epoxy. d. Extend below stream grade not less than 18". 5. The flume shall be installed such that: a. The floor of the flume is perfectly level in both directions. b. There is no distortion in the flume walls or flume outlet such that the measurement accuracy of the flume is affected. c. The outlet of the flume is no less than 6" and no greater than 10" above the residual pool during baseflow conditions. 6. The stream flow shall be completely dammed and diverted until any concrete has set to protect the integrity of the foundation and the downstream aquatic habitat. 7. Sedimentation and bank disturbance shall be minimized during the construction process where ever possible.
