DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK: The structural strengthening project is located at the Intersection residential tower on a UC Berkeley owned property in Emeryville, CA. The scope of work includes replacing all originally installed post-tension tendons and reinstalling the previously removed corrugated metal panel cladding. The building has 7 floors: the 2 lower floors are concrete and serve as vehicular parking, while the upper 5 floors provide housing for graduate students. The residential portion is constructed with modular wood framed units bearing on a ~2’ cripple wall crawlspace above the podium. The building will remain fully occupied throughout the project.This project will adhere to the 2025 California Building Code and will undergo review, permitting, and inspections by the UC Berkeley Fire Marshall and Campus Building Department. The anticipated project completion is set for Summer 2027, and it is currently in the construction documents phase. The University is inviting General Contractors (GC) who are interested in collaborating with the University and its team of consultants to bring this vision to life. LICENSES: To become prequalified, interested General Contractors must possess a current California contractor’s license – General Building License Classification, License Class “B.”
