Reference Number 0000394774 UNC is replacing its access switches and replacing and expanding its wireless access points. UNC is expanding our wireless infrastructure to provide high quality service to all buildings and some outdoor areas. UNC is looking for equipment that will easily integrate into our existing environment. Our existing networking hardware is all Cisco. UNC currently has 1,000 wireless access points and about 450 access switches. This RFP covers both replacing the existing access switches we use for wired connections and the switches we need for the addition and support of new wireless access points. We expect a substantial increase in the number of wireless access points needed. UNC believes at least 1380 total access points might be sufficient to expand our coverage, but this will be dependent on the capabilities of the hardware selected and the constraints of the restrictions on where access points can be moved or placed. The proposal must meet the criteria outlined in Section III. We are migrating away from a port per person in favor of wireless, we expect that the total number of switches needed will decrease. We estimate that 340 switches will be sufficient to provide coverage for all our wireless access points and those physically wired connections that we will keep.
