Site work, paving and renovation of a mixed-use development in Washington, Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a detention facility; for site work for a detention facility; religious / funeral development; religious / funeral development; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
Rappahannock County seeks to prequalify bidders who will then be eligible to bid on a project to repair/restore the building envelope (masonry, wood trim, roofing, windows, etc.) of county-owned historic buildings located in the town of Washington, Virginia. Two buildings are the primary focus of the project, but the prequalification may be extended to other nearby historical county-owned buildings. The first primary focus building is the historic jail and its additions. The historic jail is a masonry structure designed in 1833 and built shortly thereafter. The second primary focus building is a historic church that has been deconsecrated. The historic church is a wood clapboard structure built in 1889. The county-owned structures are located in the town of Washington, Virginia, 22747 with the jail addressed as 383 Porter Street and the church addressed as 310 Gay Street. The area around the buildings is open to the public for visual inspection. County Administrator Rappahannock County, Virginnia admin@rappahannockcountyva.gov When appropriate, the County Administrator will forward questions to the project architect: Douglas Harnsberger, RA Legacy Architecture, LLC Richmond, VA The Restoration Scope of Work for the Historic Jail will include: o Selective demolition of the Jail's South Portico and Stairs; o Selective demolition on the South Elevation of designated exposed conduits and cables, fastening hardware, shutters, and steel window grates. o Removal and replacement of limited segments of face brick on the Jail's South and North Elevations; replace with matching oversized handmade bricks by Old Carolina; o Careful removal and shop restoration of all existing historic windows; reinstallation of restored windows with operative exterior shutters; o Selective repointing of South and North Elevation walls and end chimneys; reconstruction of chimneys from attic floor level to chimney cap based on condition; o Construction of a Replacement South Portico, with granite stair treads and load-bearing brick masonry base; wood floor system, Tuscan Order wood columns and pilasters, framed roof system, and double-seamed standing-seam pre-painted metal roof. o Repair / reconstruction of existing wood cornices; installation of new half-round gutters and downspouts. o Installation of a new standing-seam metal roof over original 1833 Jail with hand-crimped double seams. The Restoration Scope of Work for the Historic Church (deconsecrated) will include: o Demolish the former church's two chimneys to below the First Floor Level; o Selectively demolish interior partition walls where indicated; strip auditorium walls and west balcony of all theater hardware, blocking and electrical outlets. o Demolish existing concrete landing and concrete curb at West Entrance; o Remove and salvage historic double-doors at entrance and all window sash; restore doors in shop; reinstall doors and sash after completing exterior repairs. o Remove existing condenser units and slabs on North Elevation; o Inspect and repair/replace northern sill that has been found in a state of decay. o Make necessary carpentry repairs to all deteriorated exterior siding, bell tower trim, roof cornices, east and west gables, windows and door trim, north and west sills, interior walls and floor surfaces. o Install new downspouts and gutter system. o Scrape, sand, caulk, prime and paint all exterior wood surfaces. o Repair former chimney roof openings with matching standing seam roof pans. o Scrape, sand and anti-rust treat all standing seam roof panels; paint roof. o Move electric meter to rear east elevation; install new panel box; rewire entire building; remove electrical service conduit from South Elevation. o Pour new West Entrance concrete landing and ADA ramp to sidewalk. o Construct two new interior bathrooms and kitchenette along west wall of auditorium; construct new handrail across balcony. o Construct new interior egress stair to Basement; install two new Basement doors and jambs. o Foam-insulate all First Floor exterior walls, ceiling and floor system. o Patch-repair, caulk and paint all interior wall finishes. o Repair, sand and refinish auditorium, bath, kitchenette and entrance foyer floors.
