Reference Number 0000397486 These specifications cover Chloride Sand Mixture to be used for ice and snow control. A homogenous mixture of Sand, 2NS or 3CS (M.D.S.H. 1976 spec.) or sand, 2NS modified (per most current MDOT specification manual) with a minimum of 3% by weight of calcium chloride admixture or 8.7 gallons per ton of sand. Calcium chloride may be either in the flake form or liquid chloride solution 32%. Chloride sand is ordered on an "as needed" basis, with a minimum order quantity of one semi-truck load, approximately 45-50 yards or 45 tons.
