The International Forest of Friendship (IFF) in Atchison is seeking bids for the removal and replacement of 16,000 square feet (3,200 linear feet x 5 feet wide) of the deteriorated concrete walkways of the existing paved trail network. In addition to the main trail network, this includes leveling the charter member's circle at the end of Memory Lane, which is 22 feet in diameter, as well as replacing a 340 sq ft. loop around the Moon Tree. This project focuses on connecting the main trail network with two key trailside facilities in the south end. Specifically, the replacement of a 192 sq. ft. wheelchair ramp from the gazebo to the southern parking lot and a 700 sq. ft. of new trail construction that connects the main trail to the bathroom, and the bathroom to the gazebo. The project will involve the demolition of the existing concrete, followed by the excavation to a depth suitable for the foundation of new walkways, estimated to be around 4 to 6 inches. The reconstruction will feature 4-inch-thick concrete paths laid upon a rock leveling course, reinforced with 1.4 welded wire fabric to ensure resilience supporting SCORP's objective of promoting health and fitness through enhanced opportunities for walking, jogging, and biking. New trail construction will follow the same procedures, with great care taken to ensure that excavation does not harm the imported trees within the area or the 1,500 granite nameplates that are currently embedded within the pavement.
