The Town of Blackstone, Virginia is seeking sealed bids from firms or individuals to fabricate and install three secondary means of egress platforms on the exterior of three burn rooms on the burn building for the Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department at the Fire Training Grounds located at 1549 Rocky Bump Road, Blackstone, Virginia 23824. Delivery and installation must be included to the specified address. Warranty shall be a minimum of 12 months parts and labor starting with the date of acceptance by the Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department. All bids shall be submitted (written or electronic through eVA) no later than 2:00 p.m., October 31, 2025, to the Blackstone Town Manager's Office at the specified address. The Town of Blackstone reserves the right to reject all bids. Proposals shall at a minimum include the following information. 1) Three separate platforms will be fabricated and installed to provide a secondary means of egress from the three burn rooms on the burn building. 2) Each platform will be approximately 16' in length and 4' in width to allow for firefighters to find a safe haven on the exterior of the building. 3) Egress will be from the second-floor windows. Doors are not required. 4) The platform braces cannot block first floor windows or doors. 5) Each platform will be anchored to the cast in place concrete stringers and the concrete apron around the building. 6) The platform floor will be galvanized steel grating. 7) All work will comply with all codes, regulations, and ordinances. 8) Pictures of the existing building are attached as well as a SIMILAR drawing of a secondary means of egress from another project. 9) Vendor must submit a drawing showing how platform will be attached to structure.
