The work under this Section covers the general requirements that are applicable to all types of hot and warm mix asphalt pavements of the plant mix type. Deviations from these general requirements will be indicated in the specific requirements for various types of mixes noted in the following sections of these Specifications. This work shall consist of one or more courses of hot and warm mix asphalt plant mix constructed in accordance with these specifications and the specific requirements of the type of mixture required and in reasonably close conformity with the lines, grades, thicknesses, and typical cross sections shown on the plans or established by the Engineer. The Contractor may use either hot mix or warm mix for all Superpave ESAL Range mixes in Sections 420, 423, and 424. Warm mix asphalt shall be defined as the use of an approved warm mix technology in the plant mix at the time of production. This work shall also include the preparation of the underlying surface on which the plant mix is to be placed, including patching and/or leveling as shown on the plans or directed by the Engineer. Sealed bids are requested for constructing sidewalks along Mayton Drive, Carl E Newsome, and College Avenue in the City of Jackson, Clarke County, Alabama. Principal work items include removing asphalt and concrete sidewalk, unclassified and borrow excavation, constructing concrete sidewalks (4" thick), concrete driveways (6" thick including wire mesh), concrete gutters (valley type), concrete curbs (Type A), combination curb and gutter (Type C, modified), and solid sodding. The estimated bracket for the project is $700,000-$750,000. The entire project must be completed within ninety (90) working days. Bids must be submitted on complete proposals provided by the Owner. Digital bidding documents are available online for a non-refundable fee. Complete paper bid documents are also available for a refundable deposit if returned in reusable condition. Each bid must be accompanied by a cashier's check or bid bond for 5% of the amount bid (maximum $10,000) as evidence of good faith. Proper licensure and proof of insurance are required prior to contract award and beginning work. The contractor must perform at least 30% of the total contract cost with its own organization. Contractor prequalification is not required to bid, but no contract will be awarded to bidders disqualified by the Alabama Department of Transportation. Minimum wage rates and federal requirements apply. Minority business enterprise and disadvantaged business enterprise participation is encouraged.
