ILDOT - 002 - Bridge Deck Replacement and Other Brige Repairs to Structure SN 098-3751 The proposed improvements consist of the removal and replacement of the East Second Street bridge deck over the canal feeder, the reconstruction of the approaches to the bridges, and all other necessary work to complete the project within the canal corridor in Whiteside County. The proposed approach road reconstruction shall be with a proposed 3" thick HMA Pavement on a 12" thick aggregate base course. Additional items of work include the establishment of signing for a detour route for Second Street traffic, the placement of curb and gutter, storm sewer, retaining wall, slope wall, guardrail, chain link fence, and all other necessary and collateral work to complete the project as shown on the plans and as specified elsewhere in these provisions. This work consists of placing a concrete wearing surface, to the varying thicknesses shown on the plans for precast, prestressed concrete deck beams. Included in this work is cleaning and preparing the precast concrete surface prior to placement of the concrete wearing surface. This work shall be according to the applicable articles of Section 503 and the following. Materials. The concrete wearing surface shall be class BS concrete. Equipment: The equipment used shall be subject to the approval of the Engineer and shall meet the following requirements: (a) Surface Preparation Equipment. Surface preparation equipment shall be according to the applicable portions of Section 1100 and the following: (1) Hand-Held Blast Cleaning Equipment. Blast cleaning using hand-held equipment may be performed by high-pressure waterblasting or abrasive blasting. Hand-held blast cleaning equipment shall have oil traps. Hand-held high-pressure waterblasting equipment shall have a minimum water pressure of 7000 psi (48 MPa). (2) Vacuum Cleanup Equipment. The equipment shall be equipped with fugitive dust control devices capable of removing wet debris and water all in the same pass. Vacuum equipment shall also be capable of washing the deck with pressurized water prior to the vacuum operation to dislodge all debris and slurry from the deck surface. (b) Concrete Equipment: Equipment for proportioning and mixing the concrete shall be according to Article 1020.03. (c) Finishing Equipment. Finishing equipment shall be according to Article 503.03. (d) Mechanical Fogging Equipment. Mechanical fogging equipment shall be according to 503.03. This work shall consist of structurally repairing concrete. This work shall consist of placing cement mortar along precast, prestressed concrete bridge deck beams as required for fairing out any unevenness between adjacent deck beams prior to placing of waterproofing membrane and surfacing."
