Renovation of a museum in Oakland, California. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a museum.
To protect the City's irreplaceable collection and provide a safe and secure environment for the people who work in this building, repairs must be done to at least the most vulnerable truss members, the exterior walls, and their connection to the roof. The Museum has conducted four independent studies from structural engineers to determine the best approach to these repairs. A targeted approach to the joists that carry the most load and are in the worst condition, coupled with reinforcement of the exterior walls with steel columns is necessary to maintain the structural integrity of the building. The project is included in the City's 2025-2027 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of October 29, 2025, further details have not yet been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
