The City of Independence, Kansas is requesting bids for chemicals to be used at the Independence Water Treatment Plant for the calendar year 2026. Each supplier may bid on one or more chemicals and bids will be awarded on each chemical separately. Chemicals required include Liquid Chlorine (one ton cylinders), Potassium Permanganate (granular, technical grade in 330 pound drums), Powdered Activated Carbon (fifty pound bags), and Liquid Ammonium Sulfate (delivered in liquid form). All chemicals must meet their respective AWWA specifications or latest revisions and should be manufactured and produced in the United States with NSF 60 standard certification, if possible. Chemicals are to be delivered FOB Independence, Kansas, with all freight, taxes, or other related charges included in the bid price. Any container deposit, demurrage, cleaning, re-inventory, or minimum delivery charges must be listed separately, and all empty containers must be picked up upon delivery of new chemicals. Specific delivery and handling requirements are provided for each chemical. The driver is responsible for offloading and proper equipment except for one-ton chlorine cylinders. Bids are to be submitted in a sealed envelope, plainly marked as specified, to the City Clerk. FAX bids will not be accepted and late bids will be returned unopened. The City of Independence reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids, to waive any informality, and to terminate or change suppliers if chemicals are found to be of inferior quality or not suitable for the water treatment process.
