The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 makes renewable energy tax credits available for school districts through an Investment Tax Credit. The Tax Credit is a direct payment to districts after renewable energy generation equipment and systems are installed. To qualify for the maximum Tax Credit, the entire project must meet the Prevailing Wage, Apprenticeship, and Domestic Content requirements. B. The potential Tax Credit to Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is calculated based on the total cost of the clean energy system and the extent that the project satisfies the requirements. If all the requirements are satisfied, then the District may receive a Tax Credit up to 40% of the cost of the clean energy system. 1. A base credit of 6% of the cost of the clean energy system. Qualifying clean energy system costs include the design, the geo-exchange system, bored field or wells, air handler associated with the energy from the ground source, ductwork and diffusers, heat pumps, heat exchangers, pipes and valves, VAV boxes, etc. 2. A multiplying credit of up to 30% is possible if the project satisfies the Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship requirements. 3. If the Domestic Content Requirement is satisfied, then the amount of the tax credit to MPS will be increased by 10%.
