Statements of qualifications for consideration to provide criteria architectural and engineering services, leadership of stakeholder workshops, and development of detailed project objectives and requirements including design test fits and a probable cost of construction for the University to utilize in execution of a design build contract. The project is envisioned as a multi-story building addition to the existing Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital on the UC Davis main veterinary medicine campus as described below. The University is seeking qualified Criteria Architect/Engineering firms to form a creative partnership with the campus for the development of a state-of-the-art facility that will satisfy the needs of the campus while meeting stringent budget, schedule, and life cycle cost goals. Relevant qualifications shall include extensive and proven experience in managing stakeholder engagement, program development, feasibility studies of teaching and veterinary care facilities for a public institution, preferably within a higher education campus. Firms must demonstrate their previous experience in developing criteria that aligns with project program and performance requirements, estimating construction budgets, establishing aggressive project schedules, and sufficient experience in LEED and sustainable design. Services will include but will not be limited to development of criteria documents including design objectives, project constraints, detailed room data sheets, cost estimating, schedule development, and similar tasks. The School of Veterinary Medicine Small Animal Hospital (SAH) will be an integrated, full-service specialty and emergency care facility that provides world-class clinicians with the spaces and equipment to diagnose, treat, and deliver lifesaving care for pets across our region. By increasing the capacity of the existing Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, the new hospital will better serve growing patient caseloads and students/house officers seeking world class veterinary training at UC Davis. Purpose built for advanced specialty and emergency/critical cases across disciplines including internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, exotic animal medicine, and more, the new multi-story facility will enable efficient diagnosis, coordinated treatment, and seamless continuity of care. The Small Animal Hospital will increase patient capacity from 40,000 to 60,000 annually by adding new operating suites, emergency rooms, pharmacy, and treatment areas. Upper floors will provide offices and clinician amenities designed to support collaboration, teaching, and clinical discovery. A welcoming central lobby will provide comfort and reassurance to clients during their most difficult moments, reflecting the hospital's deep commitment to the human animal bond and its mission to advance the frontiers of veterinary medicine and education. The new Small Animal Hospital (SAH) will be located on a surface parking lot adjacent to the east side of the existing Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. All existing utilities above and below the parking lot will be relocated and upgraded to support the new facility.
