Abatement performed on approximately 15,840 square feet of floor tiles, removal of asbestos and mastic and install refinishing epoxy on 3 hospital patient housing modules in Unit E. The Chester MHC is seeking to have abatement performed on approximately 15,840 square feet of floor tiles, removal of asbestos and mastic and install refinishing epoxy on 3 hospital patient housing modules in Unit E. Existing floor tile shall be removed intact, to the extent possible, by using the heating method by removing asbestos floor tiles using a heat gun to heat the adhesive underneath to loosen it and then using a scraper to lift the tiles. Floor tile mastic shall be removed using a mastic removal solvent. Following abatement, the concrete surface shall be prepped for 2-part epoxy by mechanically grinding the floor to a consistency of 120-grit. Cracks 1/16" or larger in width shall be filled in with concrete filler prior to floor finishing. Flooring shall be finished with (3) coats of non-slip two-part epoxy coating. Flooring finish shall be flush with drains, plumbing cleanouts, etc. (no trip hazards). Decorative flake shall be included in all epoxy areas except patient rooms. Contractor is responsible for providing and installing (2) secure transition strips where existing tile transitions to the new epoxy flooring at entrance points. Transition strips must be suitable for behavioral health setting (ie. vandal proof, removable only with tools, safe, secure).
