Work will be completed during the spring and fall 2026 planting seasons. Kawartha Conservation has been allocated funding to support the planting of 36,000 trees and shrubs in 2026, including 2,500 in the fall and 1,500 for potential refill projects. Work will be performed under the direction of the Forestry and Landowner Services Technician. Work may be performed outside of the regular work week, when deemed necessary by the Forestry and Landowner Services Technician. Kawartha Conservation engages with private and public landowners to plant trees and shrubs on productive and marginal lands that are favorable to either machine or hand planting. The tasks for both Kawartha Conservation and the successful bidder are outlined below. Kawartha Conservation tasks: o Completing landowner site visit o Sampling soil sampling and collecting site data inform species selection o Creating planting plans detailing species, stocking density, and site preparation and post tending methods. o Meeting with contractors to review planting sites o Performing planting quality and survival assessments Contractor Tasks: o Meeting with Kawartha Conservation staff to review planting sites o Performing site preparation (e.g., mowing, spraying, scribing, nothing) o Picking up and storing nursery stock in cold storage o Planting nursery stock (including seedlings, transplants, potted stock, and whips) o Performing post-plant tending (e.g., spraying, mulch mats, guards, nothing) The successful bidder will be required to complete planting projects following site preparation, planting, and post-plant tending plans created by Kawartha Conservation and further refined through change orders by Kawartha Conservation and/or the landowner on site. Work schedules and planting locations will be at the discretion of Kawartha Conservation, in consultation with the contractor. The successful bidder will be paid by submitted their invoice upon completion of contractor tasks as approved by Kawartha Conservation on a seasonal basis (i.e. spring and fall seasons).
