Sealed proposals will be received for the construction of a new gymnasium for Cottonwood High School, Cottonwood, Alabama. Work shall be in accordance with plans and specifications prepared by J. Michael Lee Associates, Inc. Architecture. Bid documents may be obtained from the architect upon deposit. Only general contractors who have been approved to bid pursuant to prequalification procedures and criteria established by the owner are eligible to bid for the project. Bids must be submitted on proposal forms furnished by the architect. The owner reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to waive technical errors if, in the owner's judgment, the best interests of the owner will thereby be promoted. A mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at Cottonwood High School for the purpose of reviewing the project and answering bidders' questions. Subcontractors are strongly encouraged to attend. Pre-qualification requirements: Only general contractors who have been approved to bid pursuant to prequalification procedures and criteria established by the owner will be eligible to bid for the project. Written prequalification procedures and criteria are available for review at the office of J. Michael Lee Associates, Inc. Architecture. All bidders bidding in amounts exceeding that established by the State Licensing Board for General Contractors must be licensed under the provisions of Title 34, Chapter 8, Code of Alabama, 1975, and must show evidence of license before bidding or bid will not be received or considered by the architect. Nonresident bidders must accompany any written bid documents with a written opinion of an attorney at law licensed to practice law in such nonresident bidder's state of domicile, regarding preferences granted by that state in public contracts. A cashier's check or bid bond equal to at least five percent of the bid amount, but not more than $10,000, must accompany the proposal. Performance and payment bonds and evidence of insurance required in the bid documents will be required at contract signing.
