The purpose of the TSC Chilled/Hot Water Piping Replacement project is to upgrade the existing failing hydronic piping system. The new system will include below-grade, pre-insulated high density polyethylene (HDPE) piping for chilled water and pre-insulated polyethylene raised temperature (PE-RT) piping for hot water. The existing piping will be abandoned in place and filled with flowable fill. New piping will be installed adjacent to the existing lines, following the layout shown in the project plans. Since the hydronic loop must remain active during construction, each building will be transitioned from the old loop to the new loop in phases, based on the owner's schedule. Before each transition, the contractor must verify each building means of isolation are in good working condition and if not provide a means of isolation such as tapping valves, freeze blocks, etc. The project also includes the installation of various insertion and isolation valves to improve system flexibility and allow for better control across the campus.
