Renovation of an educational facility in College Park, Maryland. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
The University of Maryland has endeavored to fit-out two existing core & shell buildings at their College Park campus to serve as the new primary location for their top-ranked School of Public Health. The project will be a state of the art Human Health & Sciences Complex which will serve as a pivotal next phase in supporting the University's ability to meet strategic priorities, including improving public health, meeting the demand for public health professionals, and attracting related industries. The buildings, which together encompass approximately 160,000 GSF, will consist of dry and wet labs, classrooms, clinical spaces, and faculty, graduate assistant and staff offices for several departments. There is also an activity hub for the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) near the main entrance. Timing: Project delivery is design-build with four GMPs currently anticipated - early sitework, elevators, MEP, all other trades. The design phase started in mid-October 2024 and is expected to conclude in early 2026. Construction in the main building is expected to start in the summer of 2026 and conclude in the summer of 2028. Bid Opportunity: All Other Trades The final package encompassing finish trades, glazing, security, AV, and sitework, among other trades, is planned to be put out to bid the week of January 26th, 2026 with bids due the week of February 23rd, 2026. The award package is intended to allow for submittals to proceed early in the project schedule, permitting the release of long lead items and equipment upon their approvals. Other advantages include early coordination and planning. Major considerations related to this work include MBE participation, lead times for the necessary materials, the schedule to perform the work, contractor qualifications and available capacity.
