The City of Clay Center Street Department is accepting bids for the 2026 concrete repair projects and asphalt mill and overlay projects in the city of Clay Center. For more information, a copy of the project descriptions and the bid request sheet, please contact Ken Shivers, Street Superintendent at 785-632-3818. The Clay Center Street Department is currently taking bids for a asphalt mill and overlay at 9 locations and 8 alternate locations within the city of Clay Center There is an estimated total of 21,206 square yards of milling to complete and approximately 3815 tons of BM-2 asphalt to place. The estimated milling on the 8 alternate locations have a total of 9759 sq yds of milling and approximately 1389 tons of asphalt to place 2" in depth Listed below are the locations of each project and estimated quantities to complete. The successful bidder shall contact Kansas One Call utility locating service to mark any underground utilities prior to beginning the project. Proper traffic control signs and possibly pilot car and flagman will be required at all times to provide a safe work zone. The milled material shall be hauled to the street department maintenance yard located at 9th and Bridge. The contractor shall sweep the milled areas and apply the recommended amount of tack oil prior to placing the asphalt. The successful bidder shall provide proof of liability insurance, proof of additional insured endorsement, proof of workman's comp insurance, have a bid bond in place and have a performance bond in place. The estimated start date is June 1,2026. That date is contingent with the completion of the concrete part of the street repair projects Project #1 is located at 9th and Franklin street. This site begins at the intersection and proceeds east approximately 600 feet east. There is no milling at this site as asphalt will be paced over an exiting gravel surface. The asphalt shall be placed 4" in depth and 24 feet wide for an estimated 345 tons of material. This project is approximately 600 feet long and 24 feet wide. Project # 2 is located on Garfield Street beginning at the intersection of 4th street and proceeding east on Garfield street to 450 feet east of 7th and Garfield. There is an estimated 7005 square yards of milling and 1143 tons of BM-2 asphalt to place. The asphalt at the site will be placed 3" in depth. This project is approximately 1940 feet long and 32'6" wide. Project # 3 is located at 13th and Crawford street. There will be no milling required at this site as asphalt will be placed over a gravel surface. The BM-2 shall be paced 3" in depth. The street is 28'6" wide and 190 feet in length for an estimated asphalt quantity of 100 tons. Project # 4 is located at the intersection of 1st street and Poughs Road. The project proceeds south and east and includes Sunset Circle to the west. There is an estimated quantity of 4,625 square yards of milling and 523 tons of asphalt to place. The BM-2 shall be placed 2" in depth. This project is approximately 1081 feet long by 32 feet wide and that Sunset circle area is approximately 202 feet long by 32 feet wide plus an area 116 feet wide by 10 feet wide. Project # 5 is located starting at the 5th and Blunt street intersection and proceeding east to the 6th and Blunt street intersection. The street is 25'6" wide by 439 feet in length. The BM2 shall be placed 2" in depth. There is an estimated quantity of 1243 square yards of miking and 138 tons of material to place. Project # 6 is located starting at the intersection of 4th and Huntress and proceeding east to the 6th and Huntress intersection. The BM-2 shall be placed 2" in depth. There is an estimated quantity of 2950 square yards of milling and 328 tons of BM-2 to place. This street is approximately 983 feet long by 27 feet wide. Project # 7 is located on 14th street beginning north of the 14th and Clarke street intersection and proceeding south to the 14th and Sherman street intersection. There will be surface milling required starting north of Clarke street on 14th street to the intersection of 14th and Lincoln street. There will be no milling south of 14th and Lincoln street. The BM-2 shall be placed 2" in depth on the entire project. There is an estimated quantity of 5,230 square yards of milling and 832 tons of asphalt to place. This street is approximately 1405 feet wide by 33'6" wide, 326 feet long by 20 feet wide and a section 773 feet long by 18 feet wide Project #8 is located starting at the intersection of 9th and Bridge street and proceeding south approximately 992 feet. There is approximately 77 square yards of milling on this project and approximately 281 tons of BM-2 material to place 2" in depth. This project is approximately 992 feet long by 23 feet wide. Project # 9 is located starting at the intersection of 9th and Maple proceeding west to the intersection of 8th and Maple. There is approximately 77 square yards of milling on this project and approximately 127 tons of BM-2 to place. This section is 450 feet long by 23 feet wide. The Clay Center Street Department is accepting bids for the spring 2026 concrete projects. Please provide a per unit price per lineal foot for curb removal and replacement, square foot of sidewalk removal and replacement, square foot of street approach removal and replacement, square foot of driveway removal and replacement, square foot of valley gutter removal and replacement, price per foot to install a retaining wall 6" wide and up to 6" in height, retaining wall 6" wide 6" to 12" in height, retaining wall 12" to 18" in height and the construction cost for a concrete ADA ram using red truncated panel. There are 6 location in the city of Clay Center to preform the concrete work with an estimated quantity of 3800 lineal feet of curb to remove and replace, 813 square feet of sidewalk to remove and replace, 4850 square feet of alley and side street approaches to remove and replace, 800 square feet valley gutter to remove and replace and 10 sets of concrete sidewalk steps to remove and replace. The successful bidder shall provide all traffic control necessary for the project. The successful bidder shall be responsible for contracting Kansas One Call utility locating service and keeping all locates current. The City shall provide a location to dispose of the project rubble. All new curbs shall have be 30" wide with a minimum of 1" slope from the front of the new curb to the face of the curb. It shall be the responsibility of the contractor verify the elevation of the new gutter flowlines to allow proper drainage to the catch basins. Entrances and side street approaches shall have concrete placed a minimum on 6" in depth placed on a compacted AB-3 stone base using steel reinforcement 6x6x6x6 mesh. All sidewalk concrete shall be placed minimum of 4" in depth. All concrete shall have a medium broom finish. The project completion date should be planned for early June 2026. Compacted AB-3 crushed limestone shall be used as a base under all new concrete. The City shall be responsible for backfilling and reseeding grass around all new concrete as necessary.
