The City of Avondale is proposing a River Master Plan (the Plan) that focuses on two river corridors that transect the community: the Gila River and Agua Fria River. The Plan will serve as an implementation plan that results in the activation of eco-tourism and recreation along the Gila River, the creation of an open space greenbelt system within the Agua Fria River and economic development opportunities for both river corridors. Shortlist announcement for oral interviews is scheduled for the week of March 9, 2026. Oral interviews, if necessary are to be held March 19, 2026 with anticipated agreement to start April 9, 2026.
