Renovation of a mixed-use development in Durham, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.
Provide professional Architect/Engineer (A/E) and healthcare planning services to renovate and relocate existing restrooms and locker rooms throughout Building 1 and Building 23 at the Durham VA Medical Center to ensure compliance with ADA accessibility standards. The A/E shall conduct a comprehensive study of all restrooms in these buildings and design upgrades to meet current VA ADA requirements. At a minimum, two patient and public restrooms or locker rooms per floor in each building must be fully compliant. Additional tasks include installing grab bars where required, insulating exposed sink piping in all public and patient-use restrooms, performing asbestos sampling and air monitoring, and updating finishes such as toilet partitions. The design must also incorporate power assist hardware for restroom doors, prioritizing the 7th floor within funding limitations. The design phase must be completed within 200 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed, followed by a construction procurement period of 180 days and construction period services lasting 730 days, for a total A/E contract duration of 1,110 calendar days. **Location:** Durham VA Medical Center, 508 Fulton Street, Durham, NC 27705. The magnitude of construction for this project is currently between $2,000,000 and $5,000,000 All questions shall be submitted to michael.proctor2@va.gov no later than 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on February 7, 2026. Construction procurement time frame: 180 days from this project design completion to project submission for construction. Construction Period Services (CPS): 730 days from construction award. Total A/E contract period: 1,110 calendar days. The Method of Contractor Selection has not been determined at this Time. *The value for this project is based on a financial range.
