The Project is located in two Madera County Supervisorial Districts, Districts 1 and 5 in Southeastern Madera County Growth Area, on State Route 41 between Avenue 10 and Avenue 15 in southeastern Madera County. State Route 41 is a state highway connecting the Central Coast of California with the Central Valley and Yosemite National Park. The south end of the freeway is in Morro Bay where it intersects with State Route 1, and the north end is in Yosmite National Park. As it travels through Fresno it becomes known as the Yosemite Freeway until it reaches the park. The portion of State Route 41 being improved during this project extends from its intersection with Avenue 15 in Madera County to the Freeway portion just north of the Childrens Boulevard exit, also in Madera County. This initial phase of what is a multi-phase project for the State of California will be funded and constructed by Madera County. This phase will consist of improving this section of State Route 41 to an Expressway.
