Site work and paving for a road / highway in Westlake Village, California. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway.
The project is located along Lindero Canyon Road from Baronsgate Road to Lakeview Canyon Road. Lindero Canyon Road is currently a 4-lane facility with Class II bike lanes. Sidewalk exists along the east side of the street but is missing along the west side between Baronsgate Road to Lakeview Canyon Road. LinderoCanyon Road has a 45-mph speed limit and a history of pedestrian/vehicular accidents but is a popular route for recreational walkers and cyclists. The lack of sidewalks forces pedestrians into the bike lanes, which forces cyclists into the travel lanes. The proposed project will create a pedestrian walkway, to enhance pedestrian safety by eliminating the need to walk in the street and to connect pedestrian access between transit stops and the local community. The project will widen the parkway into the existing road shoulder to provide meandering sidewalk and parkway landscaping along the full length. Reduced lane widths will help calm the traffic, further improving safety. Opportunities for porous sidewalk materials and biofiltration of urban runoff will also need to be explored during the design process and will be incorporated into the project if determined to be feasible during the preliminary design.
