Questions should be submitted through ESM Solutions Questions for addendum due by end of day on Monday, February 2 The purpose of this project is to repair, stabilize, and protect a section of the roadway embankment along the Joliet Junior College (JJC) Ring Road that has experienced progressive erosion due to stormwater runoff, soil displacement, and long-term slope degradation. The affected area has shown signs of sloughing, loss of soil mass, undercutting at the toe of the slope, and encroachment toward the roadway shoulder, creating a potential hazard to the structural integrity of the pavement and the safety of campus vehicular traffic. This project consists of removing unstable soils, reconstructing the embankment, and installing a long-term stabilization system designed to prevent future erosion and protect the roadway infrastructure. The Base Bid requires installation of a fully engineered retaining wall system to rebuild and reinforce the slope. An Alternate Bid is included for a gabion basket and riprap stabilization system, allowing the Owner to evaluate cost and performance options. The work includes, but is not limited to: o Excavation and removal of loose, unstable, or eroded soils along the bank. o Regrading the slope to achieve proper geometry for stabilization. o Installation of geotextile fabric to prevent soil migration. o Base Bid: Construction of a retaining wall system including wall units, drainage stone, geogrid reinforcement, and backfill. o Alternate Bid (add or deduct to base bid): Placement and construction of gabion baskets and riprap armoring. o Restoration of the roadway shoulder, drainage patterns, and adjacent disturbed areas. o Installation and maintenance of erosion control measures throughout construction. o Traffic control and site protection to maintain safe campus operations. The completed project will restore the structural stability of the Ring Road embankment, protect the roadway from further erosion, improve long-term drainage performance, and ensure safe vehicular access around the campus.
