Main Campus Sidewalk and Slab Repair - Joliet Junior College is undertaking a renovation project for the sidewalks and railing at several locations throughout our main campus. This project includes removing and replacing sections of sidewalks, stairs and railings as shown in the construction documents. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, tools, transportation, testing, inspections, and incidentals necessary to complete sidewalk slab and railing repairs, including but not limited to: o All items removed and not salvaged shall be properly disposed of offsite by the contractor. Including but not limited to all soil spoils, concrete, handrails, etc. o Install new concrete and railing per the plans and specifications. o Install clean fill black soil to restore landscaping to preconstruction conditions including using grass seed blanketing material. o Restore any other landscaping areas damaged in the course of this project. o Provide and use concrete washout box. Coordinate location with JJC staff. o Throughout the project, provide port-a-potties in a convenient area for your employees to use. Coordinate location with JJC staff. SITE PREPARATION o Inspect existing sidewalk and handrailing conditions. o Mark and secure the work area for safety. o Remove concrete sidewalk sections as per plans and specifications. o Remove existing handrails carefully to avoid damage to surrounding areas. DEMOLITION AND REMOVALS o Demolish and remove damaged or deteriorated concrete sidewalk sections. o Remove old handrails, including posts and fixtures. o Protect existing landscaping plantation from any damage due to project work. o Remove debris from the site and dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Subgrade and Base Preparation o Excavate and grade the area to proper elevations and slopes. o Compact subgrade to meet project specifications. o Install or repair base material (e.g., crushed stone) as required for stability and drainage. Concrete o Form and set forms for new concrete sidewalk o Pour, level, and finish new concrete to specified thickness and finish. o Install control joints as per project specifications o Cure concrete properly to ensure strength and durability. Handrailing Installation o Install new handrail posts securely into the concrete or footings. o Attach handrails according to design specifications and building codes. o Ensure handrails are plumb, level, and securely fastened. o Apply protective coatings or paint if specified. Cleanup and Final Inspection o Remove all construction debris and equipment from the site. o Clean the new sidewalks and handrails. o Conduct final inspection to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards. o Address any punch list items or deficiencies.
