New construction of a medical facility in Caledon, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a one-story above grade, 40-bed medical facility; and medical facility.
Construction of a 1-storey rehabilitation treatment for first responders affected by work-related stress or trauma, including post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI). The new facility will provide 40 residential beds to connect first responders to tailored and comprehensive treatment services. The facility will be located off of Highway 9, near Airport Road. Runnymede Healthcare Centre's new Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) Centre of Excellence for First Responders will offer comprehensive care through two dedicated sites: Station No. 3434 in Toronto and the Caledon Recovery Centre in Peel Region. These purpose-built facilities will provide first responders (fire, police, EMS and corrections) and frontline healthcare workers (nurses and physicians) a full continuum of care, from prevention to intensive treatment and return-to-work support - all within welcoming environments that promote healing, peer connection, and recovery from PTSI and related mental health challenges. Located in a forested site in the Region of Peel, the Caledon Recovery Centre will provide a tranquil environment for intensive PTSI rehabilitation. Planned features include: - A single-storey inpatient facility with 40 beds for clients requiring extended support - Programming combining psychotherapy, outdoor activities, and wellness amenities - Specialized facilities such as a woodworking shop and fitness space. The facility is designed to support the physical and mental recovery of first responders, nurses, and physicians. The new facility in Caledon will be part of Canada's first dedicated post-traumatic stress injury treatment centres for first responders. The project will enable Runnymede Healthcare Centre to provide mental health services specifically designed for first responders, nurses, and physicians, offering comprehensive care that supports their recovery and overall wellbeing. The design of the new facility will incorporate elements from the outdoors, including natural light to support wellbeing and reduce stress, and will target LEED Silver certification. June 30, 2026 Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Runnymede Healthcare Centre have issued a single, combined Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for teams to deliver the Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) Centre of Excellence for First Responders project, which includes two purpose-built facilities: Station No. 3434 in Toronto and the Caledon Recovery Centre in the Region of Peel. The combined RFQ is the first step in the process to select one or more contractors to deliver the projects, and applicants may express interest in prequalifying for one or both projects. Submissions will be reviewed to shortlist teams with the required construction experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver projects of this size and complexity. Shortlisted teams will then be invited to respond to one or both Requests for Proposals (RFPs), which will be released sequentially at different times to align with the delivery of each facility. The RFPs are anticipated to be released in late fall 2026 for the Caledon Recovery Centre, and in spring 2027 for Station No. 3434 in Toronto. Together, the projects will establish Canada's first dedicated treatment centre for first responders (fire, police, EMS and corrections) and frontline healthcare workers (nurses, and physicians) living with post-traumatic stress injury, providing a full continuum of care from prevention and assessment to treatment and return-to-work support. The Caledon Recovery Centre will be a purpose-built residential facility located in a forested site in the Region of Peel. It will provide approximately 40 beds for clients requiring intensive support, with programming that integrates psychotherapy, wellness supports, and outdoor activities. The facilities are being delivered separately using a Design-Bid-Build model. The architect and engineers of record, under contract to Runnymede Healthcare Centre, are completing the design documents. This RFQ is being issued to select a contractor or contractors to deliver the projects based on these designs.
