Work includes replacement of the bridge bearings on the Senator Roth Bridge, a major six-lane highway structure on Route 1 in St. Georges, Delaware, which carries approximately 39 million crossings per year over the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The effort consists of jacking the bridge, removing existing bearings, installing new pot bearings and elastomeric bearings, placing the bridge back onto the replacement components, and performing associated spall and crack repairs. The contractor must develop and implement all temporary traffic control in accordance with a Maryland Department of Transportation-approved plan. Each bearing replacement will require a full directional closure of the bridge, with four total closures expected (two northbound and two southbound), allowed from Friday night through Sunday, and the contractor is responsible for all traffic management during these closures. The anticipated performance period is 180 calendar days. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineer (USACE), Philadelphia District (NAP), anticipates a requirement for FY26 C&D SR-1 Bearing Replacement Contract. The estimated magnitude of this project is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000.
