The idea was first introduced under former Superintendent Dr. Patrick Shelton as part of broader efforts to address aging facilities and rising maintenance needs. The renovation would allow offices currently housed at the Mark Twain I and Mark Twain III buildings to move to EHS South. The district received six bids for the project, with Millennium Construction LLC submitting the lowest responsive base bid at $494,800. Base bids ranged from $494,800 to $779,119. According to the agenda packet, the district currently pays $217,596.12 annually in lease costs for the Mark Twain office space. Mark Twain III offices must be vacated by June 30, 2026, and Mark Twain I offices must be vacated by Sept. 1, 2026. The estimated project budget was between $700,000 and $750,000 and would be paid from the district’s Operations and Maintenance Fund. Rental payments currently come from the Education Fund.
