This is a service / maintenance or supply contract in Lexington, Kentucky. Contact the soliciting agency for additional information.
Mow and trim the lawn area of the Rest Areas and Loadometer Station grounds, consisting of approximately 28 acres per cycle. Perform mowing with commercial grade turf-type equipment (not less than 48" and not more than 72" in width; push-type mowers may be used for trimming). Farm tractors with rotary finish mowers are not allowed. Mow grass to a minimum height of 3" and correct uneven or streaked mowing immediately. Remove or disperse grass clippings if mowing is delayed and results in unsightly build-up. Perform trimming after each mowing cycle around mulched areas, trees, picnic table pads, trash containers, curbs, sign posts, and other obstacles. Blow or sweep clippings off all concrete surfaces after trimming. Perform trimming along concrete edges as needed to prevent growth from encroaching over sidewalks, curbs, picnic pads, and other concrete areas, using a hand-held string trimmer or power edger. Herbicides are not to be used to control growth near sidewalks or curbs, except where there is growth in cracks. Only online bids will be accepted. No emailed or hard copy submissions will be accepted. Vendors must review and update contact information before submitting a bid. See terms, conditions, and specifications for further details. Mulching landscape plantings, landscape beds, and trees using #1 shredded hardwood mulch aged at least six months, free of foreign materials, wood preservatives, and weed seed. Cut or pull and remove existing weeds before adding mulch. Spread mulch uniformly to a depth of 4 inches and to at least 36 inches from trunks or stems. Arrange mulch around individual trees in a "doughnut" shape. Mulched area is approximately 1,000 square feet; actual area to be determined by the Department. The Department will approve mulch materials, direct the timing and placement, and identify areas to be mulched. Apply pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control in mulched areas using specified herbicides ('Gallery' by Corteva and 'Pendulum' by BASF Corporation or equal) at labeled rates. Apply with specified equipment as a pre-emergence treatment in joints in sidewalks and pads. Post-emergent herbicides (Round-Up Pro or equal) may be used around trees, not in planting beds. The Department will approve chemicals and direct application times and areas. Applicators must be certified and licensed by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Provide verification of certification prior to award and annually thereafter. Trimming of herbaceous vegetation in landscape beds to reduce height, remove dead stems after blooming, and remove dead foliage before mulching. Department will identify areas and direct timing. Area is approximately 1,000 square feet; actual area to be determined by Department. Prune individual landscape shrubs and mass plantings as required for plant balance and health. Hand prune with slanting cuts above live buds; remove dead, diseased, or interfering branches. Mechanical shearing allowed with care for plant health. Areas and timing directed by Department. 12 individual shrubs and 1,000 square feet of mass plantings are approximate; actual quantity determined by Department. Prune landscape trees (12–35 feet in height) to ensure proportion and health, removing dead, broken, or diseased branches. Preserve natural character; prune evergreens only to remove damaged branches. No under-trimming or heading-back. Department will direct timing and areas. Approximately 12 trees to be pruned; actual number determined by Department. Remove dead trees and shrubs (up to 35 feet tall) as required. Department will direct timing and areas and identify which are to be removed. All biomass must be disposed of in compliance with regulations. Approximately 5 trees and shrubs; actual number determined by Department. Apply 19-19-19 commercial grade fertilizer to mulched areas around all landscape plantings and trees at 2 lbs. per 1,000 square feet; approximately 1,000 square feet. Also, provide granular fertilizer for turf grass at 19-19-19 ratio at 3 lbs. per 1,000 square feet (700 lbs. per acre), for approximately 28 acres. Department approves material, directs timing, and identifies areas. Applicators must be certified and licensed. Remove leaf material from fine turf areas (approx. 6 acres), place in plastic bags, and store in designated areas for Department removal. Furnish equipment/materials, perform operation as directed, and areas will be identified by Department. Remove and dispose of weeds from planting beds (1,000 square feet), bi-weekly or as directed. Place refuse in bags for Department removal. Provide needed equipment, and operation areas/timing directed by Department. Seeding of grasses, flowers, planting of trees, shrubs, and general grounds work as directed, including all labor and equipment. Department provides seed, fertilizer, and other materials. Department approves equipment/practices and directs timing and areas. Approximately 40 man hours; actual determined by Department. Provide licensed/certified pesticide applicators for all herbicide/insecticide applications as required. Verification of certification must be given prior to contract award and annually thereafter.
