Construction of an asphalt trail connecting the upper visitor center to the lower Acastus Trail and replacement of an existing 36-inch corrugated metal pipe. Work includes clearing and grubbing, removing asphalt, excavation, and embankment. Existing trail material is to be removed, conserved, and reused for shouldering and subgrade of resting pads, with shoulders sloped at a maximum of 1:10 and all aggregate materials retained onsite. Native subbase must be graded and prepared prior to placement. The asphalt trail shall be 6 feet wide with a 3-inch depth and a maximum 2 percent cross slope, placed over a 4-inch aggregate base. Testing of aggregate base, asphalt, and concrete shall comply with FP-24. Asphalt resting pads shall be 4 feet by 6 feet with a 3-inch depth and a maximum 2 percent cross slope in all directions, placed on a water-compacted aggregate base. Concrete curb shall be NDOT Type 5, including a spillway to the culvert inlet, and may be set on compacted aggregate base, with native subbase compacted with water and inspected before placement. Backfilling to the top of curb shall use native material. Culvert work includes submitting a proposed pipe plot for placement of the new 36-inch culvert with a minimum 5 percent drop and removal of the existing culvert, inlet stacked rock, and outlet riprap. All work necessary to extend the asphalt trail and shoulders is included in the option items.
