Roof Deck Requirements o Roof sheathing shall be minimum 7/16" OSB or 1/2" plywood, APA rated. o Replace deteriorated decking to match existing thickness. o Fasten decking per IRC Table R602.3(1): o 8d ring-shank nails o 6" O.C. at panel edges o 12" O.C. in field Ice Barrier (Cold Climate Compliance) o Self-adhering polymer-modified bitumen membrane complying with: o ASTM D1970 o Install from eave edge to minimum 24" inside interior heated wall line (typically 6' from eave in Wisconsin). o Install in valleys and around penetrations. Underlayment o Synthetic underlayment meeting: o ASTM D226 Type II (if felt alternative) o ASTM D4869 o Mechanically fastened per manufacturer specs. o Horizontal laps minimum 4". o Vertical laps minimum 6". Drip Edge o Pre-finished aluminum drip edge complying with: o IRC R905.2.8.5 o Install at eaves and rakes. o Fasten 12" O.C. o Overlap joints minimum 2". Flashing o Step flashing: 26-gauge galvanized steel minimum. o Valley metal (if used): 24-gauge galvanized or prefinished steel. o Plumbing boots: neoprene. o All flashing metal to comply with ASTM A653 (galvanized steel). Architectural Asphalt Shingles Material Standard Shingles shall comply with: o ASTM D3462 (Asphalt Shingles) o ASTM D7158 Class H (Wind Resistance 150 mph) OR o ASTM D3161 Class F (110 mph minimum) o ASTM E108 Class A Fire Rating Approved Manufacturers (or equivalent): o GAF o CertainTeed For a 2:12 to 3:12 pitch, asphalt shingles are acceptable only if installed with full-coverage iceand-water shield underlayment Fastening Schedule o Minimum 6 nails per shingle. o Nails shall be: o 11-12 gauge galvanized steel o 3/8" minimum head diameter o Length sufficient to penetrate 3/4" into deck or through sheathing. o Placement per manufacturer's high-wind zone pattern.
