It is the intent of this project to provide Crack Filling, Bituminous Spray Patching, Asphalt Emulsion Sealing, and related services at three Mason School sites. The areas to be spray patched are contained within the areas depicted on the enclosed map, and these areas average approximately 0.50 inches in depth. The area to be spray patched shall be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, sand, dust, vegetation and debris before the patching is performed. Perimeters of certain areas may be cold milled, as directed, at the discretion of the owner. The area shall be repaired by the application of asphalt emulsion HFRS-2m and crushed limestone. After the patch has been installed, the patched area shall be rolled with a minimum 1-ton roller, and all excess material removed. The pay item “Bituminous Spray Patching” shall include all labor and materials to clean area to be patched of all loose material and debris, spray area with emulsion material to act as tack coat, apply aggregate and emulsion onto the work area until the repairs are complete, apply uncoated aggregate to top of repair to prevent tracking by traffic, and sweep or vacuum all loose aggregate and dispose of off site. It is also the intent of this project to perform pavement crack filling and asphalt emulsion sealing at the above locations. Crack filling shall consist of Crack Overband Sealing. Cracks to be sealed will be identified by the engineer. All cracks must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, sand, dust, vegetation and debris by the use of an air compressor, or a method approved by the engineer. Cracks shall be filled with a rubberized sealant, approved by the engineer, which is heated to the temperature recommended by the manufacturer. Care shall be used to ensure that the sealant does not cool while being applied. Cracks shall be overbanded to leave approximately a 2-inch band on the surface. Cracks over ¾ in depth inch shall have a backer rod installed before the crack is sealed. The material for the crack filling shall be an approved hot poured rubberized sealer that meets ASTM specification D-3407 or D-6690. The Pay Item “Crack Overband Sealing” shall include all labor and materials to clean the existing cracks, and furnish and install sealer approved by the engineer. The cost of furnishing and installing backer rod, if needed, shall also be included. Once pavement repairs are completed, the contractor shall apply 2-coats of asphalt emulsion sealer that meets, or exceeds, the requirements of “Seal Master Polymer Modified Masterseal.” Coal tar based sealers will not be accepted. Sealer may be applied by using self-propelled squeegee equipment. Said equipment shall have a minimum of two squeegee, or brush, devices to assure adequate distribution and penetration of the sealer into the bituminous pavement. Pressurized spray equipment shall also be acceptable. Each coat shall be applied at a rate of between 0.11 to 0.13 gallons per square yard. Hand squeegees and brushes shall be acceptable in areas where practicality prohibits the use of mechanized equipment. Pavement markings shall be replaced to their original configuration. All material that is not incorporated into the work will be removed from the site; any areas that are disturbed by the construction will be repaired to a “like” condition. The successful bidder must provide any and all permits that may be required by the State of Michigan, City of Mason, Ingham County, or any other controlling agency or entity. The successful bidder shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, or sex in the performance of this contract. Failure of the contractor to comply with these requirements will be considered a material breach of the contract, and may result in its termination. The bidder proposes to do such extra work as may be authorized by the owner. Compensation shall be made on the basis agreed upon before such extra work is begun. Minimum traffic control shall provide for safe ingress and egress and protection of all persons from the construction operation.
