Sealed bids are requested for the Freel Drive Paving project for the Public Works Department. The general work includes 4791 SY of 8" PCC pavement, 2706 LF of 12" PVC Collector, 8 EA Storm Sewer French Drain Intakes, 1150 LF of 2" HDPE Conduit, removal and installation of a watermain pressure reducing valve, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances as outlined in the contract documents. Bids must be submitted on the Proposal Form provided by the City of Ames, in a sealed envelope clearly marked as a bid. Each bid must be accompanied by bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8. A corporate surety bond equal to 100% of the contract price is required from successful bidders to guarantee faithful performance, payment of materials and labor, protection of the City, and maintenance of the improvement for two years after completion and acceptance by the City. For new paving, the maintenance guarantee is four years. Work must commence as soon as possible after contract award and be completed by the contract completion date of November 1st, 2026. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed for failure to complete by this date. Contractors should not include sales or use taxes in their bid. Iowa Construction Sales Tax Exemption Certificates will be issued for materials incorporated into the project. The City of Ames reserves the right to reject any or all bids, waive informalities, and select the contract or contracts deemed in the best interest of the City. Preference is given to Iowa products, provisions, and labor to the extent required by law. Minority business enterprises will have full opportunity to submit bids and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in contract award consideration.
