The work consists of pavement reconstruction for the approach road and parking lot serving the Madison Wetland Management District Headquarters and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Visitor Center. Improvements include reconstructing the access road and parking lot with a pavement section designed as 3.5 inches of asphalt concrete pavement over 4 inches of aggregate base. The project preserves the existing two-way, single-lane operation by constructing a consistent 14-foot roadway section and includes reconstruction of the approach road apron along the left side between designated station limits. The existing parking lot and the asphalt apron connecting to the concrete trail at the visitor center's east entrance will be fully reconstructed. Parking will be reconfigured to provide a total of eighteen parking stalls, including one accessible stall, with the parking surface regraded to a uniform cross slope and tied into existing sidewalks and trails. These improvements are intended to enhance safety, accessibility, and mobility for staff and visitors while extending the service life of the roadway and parking lot surfaces.
