The work includes dredging an estimated 500,000 cubic yards of material to maintain authorized channel depths of approximately minus 76 feet mean lower low water at the Port of Long Beach and as deep as minus 25 feet mean lower low water within the Los Angeles River Estuary. Dredged material will be disposed of at upland, nearshore, or offshore locations, including Environmental Protection Agency-approved ocean disposal sites. The preferred dredging method is electric; however, alternative methods may be acceptable provided applicable air quality permits are obtained. The project requires the use of dredging equipment such as clamshell dredges and scows and demonstrated experience performing comparable dredging work in open ocean or nearshore environments, including deep dredging and compliant material placement. The estimated construction magnitude is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000, with an anticipated total performance period of approximately 180 calendar days.
