Due to significant erosion caused by unexpected and unusually intense precipitation, multiple sections of Wanuskewin's Nature Trail Network have developed rills, braiding, tripping hazards, and loose, uneven surfaces, making access difficult or infeasible for mobility-impaired individuals and causing damage to sensitive habitats. Phase 1 of the project is focused on the repair and rebuilding of the "Path of the People" loop, an approximately 883-meter trail segment. The work involves: organizing and hosting frequent meetings with Wanuskewin staff for project updates, schedule discussions, constraints, and development of construction documents; implementing recommended rebuilds using sloped surfaces, elevation adjustments, and water-diversion strategies such as rolling grade dips or water bars; and ensuring completion in accordance with regulatory restrictions/guidelines and Wanuskewin’s internal protections for heritage and cultural resources.
