The improvements include inside and outside roadway widening, improvements to local access ramps, addition of one Express Lane in each direction between Sierra Avenue and Pepper Avenue, provision of at-grade Ingress/Egress and crossings at Cedar Avenue and Pepper Avenue, coordination for tolling equipment, separation of general purpose lanes from the express lane with a 2-foot-wide buffer and channelizers, improvement of existing auxiliary lanes, extension of acceleration and deceleration lanes, and construction of new auxiliary lanes between Riverside Avenue and Pepper Avenue. There will be approximately 4.89 lane miles of new roadway and restriping of 5.0 lane miles. Additional improvements involve construction of communication connections, CHP observation areas, replacement of barriers and guardrails, construction of maintenance vehicle pullouts, modifications to stormwater drainage, construction of water quality BMPs, installation of median lighting, replacement of sign structures, and construction of retaining and sound walls.
