DeSoto County is seeking a qualified Florida Registered Professional Engineer to perform complete design and permitting services for the construction of a Safe Room at Fire Station 2. The scope includes creating a design package signed and sealed by a PE licensed in Florida, with engineering drawings, specifications, construction cost estimate, surveys, and all relevant project documents that meet current hurricane ratings, local codes, and building codes. The Safe Room must be an independent structure with poured concrete walls, steel fire doors, and intended to provide "near-absolute protection" per FEMA P-361, ICC 500, and ASCE 7 standards. The HVAC will be a new mini-split system, the interior finished with drywall, trim, and flooring, and the Safe Room will use the existing emergency generator. Required deliverables include 60% and 90% design submissions in PDF format, and a final signed and sealed submission in PDF and AutoCad files (2020 or newer), along with eight hard copies and all required permits. All proposers are required to visit the project site prior to submitting a proposal. Respondents must be fully licensed and certified by the State of Florida as required by F.S 471.023, and demonstrate experience with similar sized structures. Emergency shelter or safe room experience is desired but not required. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
