Sidewalk Improvements Along Contractor Qualification Required for DCAMM contracts over $150,000, Highway Division contracts over $50,000. The work under this item shall include any sawcutting, removal and disposal of existing sidewalk, roadway or driveway surface and base material, stripping any loam and subgrade material, regrading the new sidewalk area, and furnishing and placing of a new Hot Mix Asphalt sidewalk on a prepared gravel base course. Tree roots in the excavated areas shall be properly root pruned according to industry best practices, and will be inspected by a Town Certified Arborist. Forms shall be kept at least 4" away from trees. Any street signs disturbed during construction shall be reset in their prior location, or as directed by the Engineer. The work shall be done in conformance with the applicable requirements of Section 702 of the Standard Specification. The pavement shall be constructed in two courses: Sidewalks- 1.25 in. Hot Mix Asphalt, surface course (compacted thickness)- 1.75 in. Hot Mix Asphalt, intermediate course (compacted thickness) Driveways- 1.5 in. Hot Mix Asphalt, surface course (compacted thickness)- 2.5 in. Hot Mix Asphalt, intermediate course (compacted thickness) MATERIALS GRAVEL for foundations shall conform to the requirements for Gravel Base Course as specified with the maximum size of stone being three (3) inches. HOT MIX ASPHALT shall conform to the requirements of Section M3.11.00 Hot Mix Asphalt of the Standard Specifications. Surface course shall be 9.5mm SUPERPAVE Surface Course. Intermediate course shall be 12.5mm SUPERPAVE Intermediate Course. DESCRIPTION The sidewalk shall be constructed to provide proper drainage away from any walls or buildings. The finished surface of the sidewalk along the roadway shall be constructed to match the grade of the top of the granite curb unless shown or directed otherwise and shall slope a grade of 1.5%, with a construction tolerance of +/-0.5 % (2.0% maximum), toward the street to provide for proper drainage. BASE COURSE An eight inch minimum (compacted thickness) gravel base course shall be placed upon the previously prepared subgrade and thoroughly compacted. The surface shall be parallel to the proposed surface of the walk. MEASUREMENT Hot Mix Asphalt sidewalk will be measured by the square yard of pavement, complete in-place. PAYMENT Hot Mix Asphalt sidewalk, including 8-inch gravel base, will be paid for at the Contract unit price per square yard, which price shall include all labor, materials, equipment and incidental costs required to complete the work above, including excavation and disposal of existing material, and subgrade preparation. Furnishing and placing 6 inches of loam on all adjacent disturbed areas and seeding shall not be included under this item and shall be paid for separately under each item.
