The City of Palmetto is considering construction of a new city hall on vacant land located just north of the Palmetto Police Department. City officials project that staff growth over the next 15 years will require significantly more space than the current 6,500-square-foot facility, with a new building potentially reaching up to 15,000 square feet. The site under consideration would create a campus-style municipal complex and allow for future expansion, with adjacent acreage potentially added to the city's trail system. City officials in Palmetto are also evaluating renovation of an existing five-story office building known as the Sunmed Building, located adjacent to the current city hall at 600 Eighth Ave. W. The property was valued at approximately $3.3 million in 2025 and is being considered as an alternative to new construction to address space constraints and aging infrastructure in the current city hall, which dates back to the 1950s. As of May 1, 2026, this project is in early conceptual stages. Neither an architect nor a general contractor have been selected.
