Market research is being conducted to identify qualified and interested businesses capable of performing heavy and civil construction work associated with upcoming phases of the Charleston Peninsula Coastal Storm Risk Management project. The work represents initial segments of a larger coastal flood protection effort and includes construction activities associated with complex urban waterfront infrastructure. One segment involves the Adger's Wharf area, extending from South Adger's Wharf to the southern end of Waterfront Park and encompassing approximately 1,200 linear feet of seawall and pedestrian promenade in a historically significant and technically complex setting. Anticipated construction activities include seawall construction and associated promenade features, with delivery potentially through a design-build or collaborative construction approach. Another segment involves the Lockwood Drive area, one of the lowest elevation and most vulnerable portions of the peninsula, extending approximately 7,820 linear feet from the Ashley River Bridges south to the U.S. Coast Guard Station at Tradd Street. This work is expected to incorporate tide gates, ADA-compliant connections, pedestrian ramps, public promenade features, and nature-based shoreline enhancements, while coordinating with adjacent City of Charleston infrastructure initiatives. Construction for these segments is anticipated to involve traditional heavy and civil engineering methods and coordination within an active urban environment.
