Site work for a civil project in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project; and bridge / tunnel.
Location 1 – Allen Avenue Storm Sewer System Reconstruction and expansion of the existing storm sewer system. Reconfiguration of the storm system to improve hydraulic performance. Adjustments to align the storm system with the creek bottom elevation. Installation of new access and maintenance structures. Overall objective: improve flow capacity, reduce flood risk, and enhance long-term maintainability. Allen Avenue just north of Murdock Creek The storm sewer below Allen Avenue discharges to a 1600 mm diameter corrugated steel pip (CSP) culvert, which conveys Murdock Creek below the Allen Avenue crossing and public property to the southwest. However, as show in Schedule A – Images – Storm Outlet on Allen Avenue, the 1600 mm diameter culvert is at a significantly higher elevation than that of the storm sewer invert, which necessitates surcharging in the storm sewer to discharge storm water into the piped creek. Location 2 – Rand Creek Culvert Crossings (Baron Street & Earl Street) Replacement of the existing twin steel culverts at Earl Street, which have exceeded their service life and are affected by sediment-related capacity restrictions. Installation of new concrete box culverts to improve hydraulic capacity, structural integrity, and long-term resilience. Two-stage construction approach to maintain access and manage construction sequencing: Stage 1 – Baron Street Construction of a new concrete box culvert at Baron Street, at the location of a former bridge structure, including the full reconstruction of the roadway and associated approaches. Stage 2 – Earl Street Once the Baron Street crossing is complete and operational, the existing culverts at Earl Street will be removed and replaced with a concrete box culvert. TIMELINE: An RFP for engineering and project management services has been issued by the owner. The approved project includes two related stormwater infrastructure improvements, delivered as a coordinated system-wide flood mitigation initiative. Provincial funding has been secured, with design work scheduled for 2026 and construction anticipated to occur over two construction seasons (2027–2028).
