The work consists of the progressive design-build design and construction of a new approximately 50,000 square foot industrial testing facility to expand mission-critical testing capabilities in support of the Sentinel program. The facility will support nuclear hardness and radiation effects testing and will include specialized laboratories for radiation effects equipment, test cells, and control rooms; support spaces for material storage, dosimetry testing, and classified conferencing; and a receiving area with a loading dock capable of supporting forklifts and delivery trucks. Construction will require robust reinforced concrete and structural steel systems and the incorporation of specialized shielding features, including concrete, earth barriers, and required standoff distances, to safely contain radiation. The facility will be designed to house advanced testing systems such as the Advanced Radiation Environment Simulator and a 14 MeV neutron generator to perform dose rate and total dose testing on components, modules, and full systems. The project will be delivered using a Progressive Design-Build approach under Other Transaction Authority, with phased design development, preconstruction services, and final construction performed under firm-fixed-price milestones as the design matures.
