Funding is available for Round 17 of Urban and Community Forestry grants under the 25 Million Trees Initiative to support data-driven management planning for urban forest expansion and enhancement. The grant program aims to develop inventories and assessments for individual right-of-way and landscape trees or forested natural areas, or to develop community forest management plans based on these inventories or assessments. A new project type is included for developing inventories and assessments using ground-based remote sensing technologies. Projects must have defined objectives, tasks, and deliverables completed and invoiced within a four-year contract period. All bids must be submitted through the NYS SFS Grants Management System, and all bidders must be registered to apply. Bidders may submit one application with multiple project sites or multiple applications for multiple projects but are limited to one inventory/assessment and one community forest management plan per application. Projects must be implemented in New York State on eligible public or publicly accessible lands. Eligible bidders include governmental entities, municipalities, quasi-governmental entities, public authorities, municipal corporations, school districts, community colleges, and 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporations whose projects are located within the eligible geographic boundaries. Bidders must possess the knowledge, skills, and/or track record to successfully implement the project. Individuals and unincorporated groups may not apply directly, but a fiscal sponsor may apply on their behalf. If the project involves partners, only one eligible lead bidder can submit the bid and must upload letters of collaboration from each partner.
